Sab se seedha sachcha rasta

Six stages. Move by ability, not dates.

6 marhalay. Tareekh nahi, qabiliyat dekh kar aage barhein.

The time ranges are estimates, not deadlines. Open a stage for the full instructions, resources and proof that you are ready to move on.

Waqt sirf andaza hai, deadline nahi. Har marhala khol kar poori hidayat, resources aur aage barhne ke nishan dekhein.

01

Build sentences you can use

Kaam anay walay jumlay banayein

Hear it, copy it, change it, use it.

Sunein, copy karein, badlein, istemal karein.

Often 4–8 weeksAksar 4–8 haftay

Your first goal is not “learn English.” It is to own a small set of everyday sentences: introducing yourself, asking for help, buying something, talking about family, work, study, likes and plans.

Pehla maqsad “poori English seekhna” nahi. Pehle rozmarra ke chhote jumlay apne banayein: taaruf, madad mangna, cheez khareedna, family, kaam, parhai, pasand aur plans.

  • Use VOA Let's Learn English as the main course. Do lessons in order.
  • For each useful sentence: listen three times, say it three times, then change one part.
  • Recall five old sentences without looking before learning new ones.
  • Use Urdu explanations only when the English lesson is genuinely unclear.
  • VOA Let's Learn English ko main course rakhein. Lessons tartib se karein.
  • Har kaam ke jumlay ko 3 baar sunein, 3 baar bolein, phir us ka ek hissa badlein.
  • Naye jumlon se pehle 5 puranay jumlay bina dekhay yaad se bolein.
  • Urdu explanation sirf tab dekhein jab English lesson waqai samajh na aaye.

Move on when you can…

Aage tab barhein jab…

02

Train your ears—and answer back

Kaan train karein—aur jawab dein

Slow English becomes understandable speech.

Dheemi English samajh anay wali awaaz banti hai.

Often 6–10 weeksAksar 6–10 haftay

Shadowing trains sound; answering trains speaking. Keep both. After a gentle preparation period, begin five-minute guided conversations with AI or a patient person.

Shadowing awaaz train karti hai; jawab dena speaking train karta hai. Dono karein. Thori tayari ke baad AI ya sabr walay insan ke saath 5-minute ki guided baat shuru karein.

  • Watch once for meaning. Replay short sections and speak with the audio.
  • Close the transcript and explain what happened in simple English.
  • Have one-question-at-a-time voice practice two or three times each week.
  • Ask for one correction at a time—not a lecture after every sentence.
  • Pehli baar matlab ke liye dekhein. Chhota hissa dobara chala kar audio ke saath bolein.
  • Transcript band kar ke simple English mein batayein kya hua.
  • Haftay mein 2 ya 3 baar ek-sawal-ek-waqt voice practice karein.
  • Ek waqt mein sirf ek correction lein—har jumlay ke baad lecture nahi.

03

Cross into real English

Asli English mein qadam rakhein

Learner content becomes real voices and easy stories.

Lessons se asli awaazon aur aasaan kahaniyon tak.

Often 2–4 monthsAksar 2–4 mahinay

Native material works only when enough of it is understandable. Start with slow real-life videos and very easy readers. Difficulty is not proof of progress; useful repetition is.

Asli content tab kaam karta hai jab us ka kafi hissa samajh aaye. Dheemi real-life videos aur bohat aasaan readers se shuru karein. Mushkil hona progress ka saboot nahi; kaam ki repetition hai.

  • Use slow real-life episodes before street interviews at full speed.
  • Read while listening when audio is available.
  • Choose a book with no more than a few unknown words on each page.
  • Keep a maximum of five useful phrases from a session; reuse them that week.
  • Full-speed street interviews se pehle slow real-life episodes dekhein.
  • Audio ho to suntay huay saath parhein.
  • Aisi kitab chunein jis ke har page par sirf chand anjaan words hon.
  • Ek session se zyada se zyada 5 kaam ke jumlay rakhein; isi haftay istemal karein.

Move on when you can…

Aage tab barhein jab…

04

Make movies stop sounding like noise

Movies ko shor se zubaan banayein

Enjoy first, study one scene, then remove support.

Pehle maza, phir ek scene practice, phir sahara kam.

OngoingMusalsal

Movies are practice and motivation—not your main beginner course. Choose familiar, dialogue-heavy content. Use English audio. Start with English subtitles; use Urdu only briefly when the story is lost.

Movies practice aur motivation hain—beginner ka main course nahi. Pehchani hui, dialogue wali cheez chunein. Audio English ho. Pehle English subtitles; Urdu sirf thori dair jab kahani kho jaye.

  • Pass 1: watch for the story without pausing every line.
  • Pass 2: replay one useful two-to-five-minute scene with English subtitles.
  • Pass 3: replay that scene without subtitles and shadow two lines.
  • Save at most three phrases. A movie is not a vocabulary exam.
  • Pehli baar: kahani ke liye dekhein, har line par pause nahi.
  • Doosri baar: 2 se 5 minute ka kaam ka scene English subtitles ke saath.
  • Teesri baar: wahi scene subtitles ke baghair, 2 lines shadow karein.
  • Zyada se zyada 3 jumlay save karein. Movie vocabulary test nahi.

Books and open conversation

Kitaabein aur khuli guftagu

English becomes something you live in.

English ab parhai nahi, zindagi ka hissa banti hai.

Long-term growthLambi muddat ki growth

Move from A1 readers to A2, B1 and then short original books. Speak about opinions, stories and problems—not only prepared introductions. Keep difficulty low enough that you want to return tomorrow.

A1 readers se A2, B1 aur phir chhoti asli kitaabon tak jayein. Sirf tayyar taaruf nahi—raaye, kahani aur maslay par baat karein. Mushkil itni kam ho ke kal phir dil kare.

  • Read for the story; look up only words blocking the meaning.
  • Give a two-minute spoken summary after each reading session.
  • Have one longer conversation each week with AI, a tutor or a partner.
  • Try Toastmasters only when everyday conversation already feels possible.
  • Kahani ke liye parhein; sirf woh word dekhein jo matlab rok raha ho.
  • Har reading ke baad 2-minute ka bol kar summary dein.
  • Haftay mein ek lambi guftagu AI, tutor ya partner ke saath karein.
  • Toastmasters tab try karein jab rozmarra guftagu pehle se mumkin ho.

You are strong here when you can…

Yahan mazboot tab hain jab…

06

Write what you can already say

Jo bol sakte hain woh likhein

Add messages, spelling and clear writing later.

Messages, spelling aur saaf writing baad mein add karein.

Add when readyJab tayyar hon

Writing is easier after you have language in your ears and mouth. Begin with language you already use: messages, summaries, requests, emails and short opinions.

Jab English kaan aur munh mein aa jaye to writing aasaan hoti hai. Wahi cheez likhein jo bolte hain: messages, summaries, requests, emails aur chhoti raaye.

  • Record a voice note, then write the same message.
  • Compare your version with one corrected version.
  • Keep a personal spelling list only for words you repeatedly need.
  • Move from messages to paragraphs, then practical emails.
  • Voice note record karein, phir wahi paigham likhein.
  • Apni writing ko ek corrected version se compare karein.
  • Sirf baar baar kaam anay walay words ki spelling list rakhein.
  • Messages se paragraph, phir practical email tak jayein.

Naram American-English practice prompt

Act as a patient American English conversation partner for an Urdu-speaking teenager or adult in Pakistan. Use short, natural sentences. Ask only one question at a time and wait for my answer. Begin with familiar everyday topics. If I struggle, give me two short answer choices. Correct only one important mistake after I finish speaking, show the natural version, and let me say it again. Do not give grammar lectures unless I ask. Keep the conversation friendly and gradually make it harder. Start by asking my name and what I did today.

Why this path is different

Yeh rasta kyun mukhtalif hai

Built around evidence, not slogans.

Naaron par nahi, evidence par bana hai.

Meaning-focused listening, reading and viewing all help, but beginners learn more when material is made for learners and repeated across sessions. Entertainment video is useful, yet less efficient than educational material as the main course. Light, timely grammar instruction is more reliable than assuming every pattern will “arrive on its own.” Sources: incidental vocabulary meta-analysis, audiovisual-input meta-analysis, and grammar-instruction study.

Matlab par mabni listening, reading aur viewing sab madad kartay hain, lekin beginner ko zyada faida tab hota hai jab material learners ke liye bana ho aur mukhtalif sessions mein repeat ho. Movies kaam ki hain, magar main course ke taur par educational material se kam efficient. Thori, waqt par grammar is baat se zyada bharosaymand hai ke har pattern “khud aa jayega.” Upar diye research links detail ke liye hain.
